Last week we went to Whitefish, Montana to visit Amity and learn more about the place that she calls paradise. We flew out last Wednesday morning with a stop in Denver and then Spokane. We then got a car and drove three hours through Washington and Idaho before reaching Whitefish. Andy and I both believe that it was one of the prettiest drives we have ever taken. I love Colorado, but Idaho and Montana were so much more lush with evergreens and beautiful lakes everywhere. I swear the lakes looked like a gulf coast emerald green.
While we were there, we painted some pottery, did a little skiing, bowling, and eating. We got to eat the famed huckleberries that Amity has talked so much about. We had huckleberry pancakes, BBQ sauce that was made by Billy, and jam on our sandwiches. Andy and I went out to a Mexican restaurant one night and I tried an elk burrito which was really good too.
Skiing was the main focus of our trip and we got a lot in. Andy skied five days and got to try skiing in powder one day which was a first for him. Briley took lessons for three days, and she did an amazing job. She has passed up my skill level which isn't hard to do. She flies down the mountain and takes the little side trails with no problem. She is a natural like her daddy and really fun to watch. The girl has no fear at all, and keeps telling us that she wants to go faster. She is also really entertaining when she falls because of course it is always someone else that made her fall down. Baylor really wanted to ski so we let him do a half day of lessons and it was really entertaining to watch. He stuck to the magic carpet for the day and I think he completely wore his instructor out. I don't think he had as much fun as he thought he was going to have, but I think he will be the perfect age next time we go.
Amity gave me a massage for my birthday present so after skiing for three days, I got to enjoy a relaxing massage. It was the perfect gift to top off my week:) When I got home that night a leprechaun had visited and left a fun scavenger hunt for Briley and Baylor. I got the tail end of the hunt so unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but Billy or O'reilly spent all day setting it up. Next years leprechaun has a lot to live up to.
Our last day there Andy and Billy skied and Amity took Briley, Baylor, and I to National Glacier Park. It was closed for the most part we at least got to see part of it, and we had a herd of elk go in front of the car which was neat. I also took the kids to town to pick out their souvenirs. Briley got Moosie the Moose and Baylor got a moostache t-shirt. That night we went bowling and ate some ice cream to top off the trip.
Thank you Amity and Billy for hosting us for the week! We had so much fun and I can't wait to plan our summer vacation there.
