This year we made another trip down to Florida to spend a week on the beach. We left Kansas City right as the storm was about to come in. To avoid the storm, we had to go around it which tacked on another thirty minutes to our flight. Not a big deal unless you have a toddler that fights to get down the whole time. We unfortunately didn't have much time once we areached Houston so the kids didn't get much time to run off energy before boarding the next plane. We ended up getting down to Panama City, got our car, and made our way to the Donut Hole for lunch. Andy got a hamburger that he continues to rave about so I guess I will have to try it next time. After eating, we went on to our house, and started unpacking. Andy took the kids to the beach with Asa, and the rest of us went to the grocery store.
There have been issues this year with where you can put your things on the beach, and it was probably the one part of vacation that had me worried. Fortunately it turned out ok. Andy or Jeff would get up and go set up our things around 6 or 6:30 each day, and we really didn't have much trouble with it. Everyone around us was pretty friendly, and it really cleared out after the fourth. I think there must have been a lot of people who made it a long weekend and then headed out after the Fourth of July. We would get down to the beach between 8:30 and 9:00 and it was really pretty empty.
Briley, Baylor, and Finley seemed to love their days at the beach. Atticus was a different story. We spent our time chasing him as he darted toward the water or listened to his whine as he sat by us. All I kept telling myself was that he will be better next year. It's got to get better right?
Briley loved digging holes, building sandcastles, catching sea slugs, and collecting seashells. Baylor loved building sandcastles, taking naps every afternoon, and swimming in the pool. Finley just loved everything. She loved having the boys take her out into the water, helping her siblings with castle making, walking on the beach, and eating snacks.
We had a great Fourth of July in Seaside. We got up early and made our way to Seaside by about 7:30. We were able to find a parking spot with no problem and good place to sit in the shade right by the post office. The parade was fun, and the kids had a good time catching candy, watching the floats, and the dancers that came along.
We had some great food of course at some of our usual places, and we tried some new food too. Andy and I snuck away to the Perfect Pig one night, and we highly recommend it. I had crab cakes with a side of tomato soup and baguettes, Andy got the steak. It was really great all around. We had to of course hit up the Hub, Great Southern Cafe, Frostbites, Charlie's Donut Shop, and Donut Hole pies.
Overall it was a good vacation, and many memories were made. Can't wait to get back there again next year!
