San Diego..We will Miss You

Last Thursday Andy and I set off on an adventure to San Diego with our friends Jonathan and Tabitha.  It was a trip that we have tried so many times to make work, but between our pregnancies and babies, it just had not happened until now.  I think we were all so excited to finally get this opportunity to go on a vacation together, and I'm sure it will only be the first of many adventures. We met them at the airport, and set off at 6:30 that night.  It was a really long flight, and once we got there they had us in a pattern for another twenty minutes before landing.
Once we arrived we made our way to Liberty Station to drop off our things, and then walked over to a restaurant to eat dinner.  We got some drinks, and relaxed for a bit before walking back to the condo, and going to bed.  We had a big day ahead of us!
Friday morning we got up early to get on the road by 7:00.  We made it to Disney thirty minutes early, and they were letting people in.  We all walked in and then Jonathan and Andy walked over to California Adventure to get our Radiator Springs racer fast passes.  While we waited on them we had plans of riding Peter Pan, but the line was over an hour long, and that was with us going straight to the ride when the park opened.  Crazy! Instead of waiting in line we road Wild Toad's Adventure, Snow White's Scary Ride, and Pinocchio's Daring Journey.  These weren't amazing rides, but I love the nostalgia of them being some of the original rides to the park.  After we finished those we met the boys at Indiana Jones to grab that fast pass before riding Jingle Bells, Splash Mountain, and Haunted Mansion.  I was amazed about how these two rides were completely transformed for the Christmas season.  I think Haunted Mansion at Christmas is the best time to ride it with all the details that they add.  Next was Indiana Jones, and that was a fun one too. We followed that with Thunder Mountain Railroad before going to California Adventure.
We grabbed a fastpass to Soarin on our way to Radiator Springs Racer.  This whole Cars Land I know Baylor would love.  Such a neat part of the park with the Racer being one of our favorite rides.  After riding the ride, we ate at Flo's V8 Cafe.  The food was good, and kind of put us in a food coma.  We rode Luigi's Rockin Roadsters, and Mater's Junkyard Jamboree.  Cute rides that I know our kids would love.  After that we took a little break and got some drinks while walking around other parts of the park.  Lines were starting to get long so we just used this time to chill for a little bit.  We made our way back over to Disneyland and caught Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, and then walked out to watch them lower the flag.  Such a great experience that we probably would not have taken the time to watch had the kids been with us.  They called all service men and women to stand around the flag pole as they lowered with the Barbershop quartet singing patriotic songs, and the marching band playing.  Once it was over, we were feeling quite patriotic.
We left Disneyland again, and went to California Adventure to ride Soarin.  We left Adventure, and went back to Disneyland for Pirates of the Caribbean and Storybook Land Canal Boats.  After we rode these it was time to head back to the front to see the fireworks show.  The show was very good, and I really enjoyed the opportunity to see the Christmas edition that was completed with snow falling down on you.  We  hopped back over to California Adventure to eat dinner and hoped to ride the ferris wheel, but it was shut down for some reason so we did Ariel's ride just to sit down.  When we exited it was time for the World of Color so we grabbed hot chocolate and found a spot.  This I have to say was a pretty amazing show.  I really didn't know what to expect going into it, but it was one that we all really enjoyed.  At this point in the night we were exhausted and cold, and I think if one of us would have said lets go, we all probably would have jumped on the chance.  Instead, we left California Adventure and went back to Disneyland.  We wanted to ride Matterhorn and the wait was an hour so we got in line.  The line was instead about thirty minutes and before I knew it we were in our toboggan.  I asked Tab before getting on if the ride was similar to Thunder Mountain, and she said, Thunder Mountain is like a crazy train ride, and this is more of a smooth toboggan ride.  We have come to the conclusion that Tab's memory might be failing her because this was not a smooth ride at all.  I could hear her laughing behind me, Andy is yelling that his teeth were about to be rattled out of his head, and the lady behind Jonathan kept screaming ow at every turn.  We got off laughing so hard that there were tears coming down our faces.  That ride was wild, and it definitely woke us up.  We completed the day with a ride on It's a Small World that again had been transformed for Christmas.  It is much better at Disneyland that World I think.
We finished the night buying souvenirs for the kids, and watching a little bit of Paint the Night  before crawling back to the car.

The second floor of the fire department was Walt Disney's apartment.  It usually has a lamp in the window, but at Christmas it has a little Christmas tree.

Hiding behind Tab in my usual pose.

Saturday morning we slept in, and then Andy and Jonathan decided to go on a five mile run while Tab and I got pedicures.  Who on earth wants to run after walking 15 miles the day before?  We then met up for breakfast at Breakfast Republic.  All I can say is this place was amazing, and I will be dreaming of getting breakfast there again.
We then did a little shopping around Liberty Square before going to La Jolla.  We went to a rooftop bar at  a place called Duke's that had some yummy Mai Tai's while taking in the beautiful scenery.  We ate some appetizers, and after awhile made our way down to see the Sea Lions.  I could have sat there all day watching them.  After sunset, we went to a great little spot on the bay that had a view of the city.  Perfect relaxing day after the previous crazy one.
I loved the little details of this cute breakfast joint.

On Sunday, we went back to breakfast at Breakfast Republic.  We also ended up having the same waitress.    We all got something different, and again it was so good.  Next on our plans was Hotel Del Coranodo.  I have always wanted to go to this hotel, and it did not disappoint me.  The beach was perfect with big seashells and sand dollars all over.  So different than the little ones you get on 30-A.  We got some drinks and enjoyed the sunshine until our tour at 2.  I thought the tour was pretty good, but the Cleavers did not think it was as good as their previous one.  When it was done we made our way to the Gaslamp District for another drink at another rooftop bar before our spa appointment.  Tabitha somehow talked Andy into getting a couples massage.  I think it might have been the soreness from running the day before after Disney that made him decide to do it. It was the perfect ending to a great trip.  We went back to Liberty Square for dinner at Stone Brewery before packing up to go home.

We had the most amazing time with beautiful weather, and now I can't wait to take the kids with us and go back.  I want them to experience Disneyland, the beaches of Coronado, and sea lions in La Jolla.  There are places we didn't get to like Balboa Park and the USS Midway that I think the kids would also love too.  I'm looking forward to coming back to explore this city more in the future.
