A Busy May

So after Briley's birthday, Kansas City hosted the NFL DRAFT.  Amity and Billy came to spend the day down there watching it all.  Andy took Baylor and Atticus to do some of the experiences they had for families.  They had a blast check it all out, but it was super crowded so they didn't stay too long.

Finley had her dance competition that same weekend.  She loves a good competition, and they were fun to watch.  Her class got the diva award, and I'm guessing Finley had a lot to do with that.  Her facial expressions are so funny.

After the competition, we went to a KC Current game with the BVN soccer team.  They played Gotham FC, and won 2-0.  The kids always enjoy going to cheer on Current and Sporting.

Next up was May Day.  It was a busy night, as it seems to always be, but we got them all delivered.  I always wonder how many more years they will be willing to do it, but the older neighbors always appreciate it.

Religious Ed wrapped up with Mary's crowning, and the 6th graders were recognized.  Next year, Baylor will move up to the Junior High group to prepare for Confirmation.

Finley had her school carnival that the 3rd graders put on for the school.  She was very excited about her groups game.  Her teacher loves donuts so that was the theme of the game.

Next up, was my last chemo treatment of Taxotere and Carboplatin.  Lissy came to town to help out, and we appreciate it so much.  She succeeded in keeping me busy, and that helps me get through those days after a treatment when I'm feeling a little down.  I don't know how we would have gotten through spring without having the help from everyone.

We have wrapped up soccer for all the kids.  It is always nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel for spring sports.

Mother's Day weekend was wonderful.  We didn't have any games, and just got to relax.  Andy and I went out to dinner with some friends on Saturday night.  Sunday was Church, breakfast, relaxing around the house, and a yummy steak dinner.  For dessert, Finley picked out some chocolate covered strawberries at Costco because she thought it was a good healthy treat for me. They gave me a beautiful statue of Mary for our garden that I am so excited about.  It is Our Lady of Fatima, and her feast day was that Saturday of Mother's Day.  The kids also made cute cards, Finley made me a bracelet, and Atticus made me a keychain.  I always love the homemade gifts.

Next up was Briley's regionals for track.  Her coach knew that she, and a few of her friends were not able to qualify for an individual event this year, so he put them in a 4x800 relay.  They placed fourth at regionals and she got her personal best time.  This qualified them for state, and they were beyond excited!

Next up, was Finley's dance recital.  Amity, Billy, and Asa came to KC to watch her dance.  She danced to Jump for Hip Hop and  Crazy for jazz.  She had a blast out on that dance floor.

After the recital, we were in the car, and off to Kirksville to celebrate Jackson's graduation.  Hard to believe that he is that old, but I know Briley will be there in a blink of an eye.  High School goes too darn fast.  After the graduation,  we went over for his party for a bit.  It was nice to talk to people we hadn't seen in awhile.

This past week was all end of the year festivities.  I went to Finley's end of year pizza party for her class, I helped in Atticus's class one last time.  I loved both of their teachers so much. They were perfect for each of them.  Briley had her track and soccer banquets.  We were surprised that she got a Varsity letter in soccer this year.  She filled in for one game that Andy and I didn't even go to.  She scored a goal, and I guess that was enough to letter.  We were all a little surprised.  This is her last season of soccer with the high school since she wants to focus on track, but a fun way to go out.

Briley left for Wichita on Thursday morning for state. The rest of the kids finished off the school year on Friday.  I had chemo that morning, but friends were sweet enough to take some pictures of the kids with their friends.  Baylor rode his bike to school, and then was able to pick up the other two when they were done.  They were all ready to go to Wichita when we got home.  We checked in to our hotel, got dinner at a yummy place called Monarch, and then stopped at Milkfloat for a treat.  We finished the night with a walk along the river before heading back to the hotel.  Andy and I started a movie, but I was out pretty quickly.

The next morning, we had breakfast and then we made our way to Wichita State University for the meet.  Briley's group ran around 11:30, and they placed 7th!  That put them on the podium and they got medals.  The girls were so excited to have done so well.  I love watching Briley do what she loves to do.  The girls BVN team got third place overall, which is pretty amazing.  They didn't get home until about 2:30a.m. that morning after staying until the end to get their trophy, and stopping to eat dinner.   It was a long day for them all, but what a happy memory.
