January Happenings

After the busy holiday season, we had somewhat of a slow down in January.  Briley, Baylor, and Finley continue to play basketball.  This is Finley's first season, and those are always entertaining to watch.  She is doing well, and loving it so far.
Briley continues to play on the same team for the third season together.  It's fun to see how they have grown over the years.
Baylor is on a new team this year, and really enjoying it.  He has a coach that I think they will learn a lot from.  His strength is definitely defense.  He seems to steal the ball several times a game.
Andy had a couple of trips in January.  One of them was to Las Vegas, and he stayed at the Cosmopolitan.  He had a really fun room with great views of the strip.
At home we have been playing in the snow a lot.  There have been a few snow days, and the kids play all day outside.  We also put together a couple of puzzles.
Briley had her winter ball for Cotillion.  She enjoyed getting all fancy, and looked so grown up.  They danced the fox trot, and the swing during the dance.  She said her partners were shorter than her, but we said that is pretty typical for this age.  She had a lot of fun, and she looks forward to the next one in the spring.
The most important thing that has happened this month is the Chiefs!  They are going to the super bowl for the first time in 50 years.  The town has truly gone crazy with excitement.  It has really made January a pretty exciting month for us.  The kids have had a lot of fun spirit days in preparation for the big day.  We took the kids to Deanna Rose one night because they have a Chiefs light show going on right now.  The kids thought it was pretty cool.  I really want to go downtown to see it all lit up in red, but I don't know if we will make it or not.
On Sunday, we had some of our old neighbors over to watch the football game.  It was such a gorgeous day out, and it was fun to be outside to see everyone.  Everyone was sporting their red and in such a good mood with the upcoming game.  At 4:30 many of the stores and businesses were shut down.  It felt like Christmas Eve with no one on the roads.  Andy bought Q39 for dinner, we had snacks, and a cute Chiefs cake that Stephanie brought over.
As usual, the Chiefs know how to stress a person out during their game.  Just when you think they aren't going to win, they make an incredible comeback.  Such a fun and exciting ending to the game.  We popped champagne and celebrated.  Andy and I stayed up watching the interviews from the players, and even when we did finally go to bed you could still hear the fireworks going off all over town.
The next day the kids had pajama day at school so it was nice that I could let them sleep in a little bit.  I made my way to the grocery store, and lucked into the last two bottles of Chiefs Shatto milk. The dairy guy said he had it in the back for employees and these two bottles weren't taken so he put them out right as I was walking up.  We are going to make a big breakfast, drink our milk, and watch the Chiefs parade Wednesday.
Wednesday was our red snow day.  School was cancelled so that families could go down to the parade.  It was 20 degrees so we opted to stay home, and watch it on tv.  We had breakfast, drank our yummy red velvet Chiefs milk, and spent the day watching the festivities.

That game where we made the kids watch the game from outside.

He curled up on the couch as soon as the game was over, and fell asleep;)

Countdown is on for our trip to Disney!
