So our New Year celebration was interesting this year. We went to Garozzo's for dinner that night and came home to play games. I had also bought hats, horns, poppers, etc to celebrate the new year. I went up to take my shower and when I came back down the kids were all asleep on the couch! It was 9:00 and they were done. Andy and I just put them all to bed and celebrated the new year with just the two of us. We actually even stayed up till the real New Year which was surprising since Andy had to take Amity to the airport at 4:30 in the morning that day.
I have really been spending these past few weeks getting ready for the baby. I cleaned and organized all the closets and we moved Finley's things over to Briley's closet. Andy and I went to Ikea and bought a bookshelf to put in the closet to give them more storage. I also finally found a little girl baby outfit on clearance at Janie and Jack. I had the hardest time finding one that I liked which is weird because it is usually the boy clothes that you struggle with. I made a little bow to go with it and bought the booties so we are set there. I did see just this week another outfit at Target for the same price as the one I bought that I was half tempted to buy it if our baby actually comes on Valentine's Day. It was a pink and white striped sweater one piece outfit that had a big heart in the middle that said Love. Very sweet. I also picked up a few warm sleepers on clearance at Babies R' Us for 50% off the already clearance price. I bought two boy ones and two girl ones. I figure I will just return what I don't use. It is just hard to pass up the clearance prices on winter things. All of our kids were born in the spring and summer so I really don't have a lot of warm weather clothes in little sizes. Lastly, I got the cradle out of the attic and got it set up in our room and washed part of the boys clothes and part of the girls clothes so that they are ready to go.
This past weekend, Andy took Briley and Baylor up to Iowa to go skiing. We are planning to go to Colorado or Montana next year for a big ski trip and Andy wanted them to get some practice in before we go. Finley and I were home alone and it was weird. We went out to dinner with some of my old co-workers on Friday night and I was worried about taking her because it was a nicer restaurant and when we all get together it tends to be a long meal because we have so much catching up to do, but she did great. The next day we ran some errands and I found the sweetest new children's book that I think I am going to give her when the baby comes. We came home and she took a four hour nap! It is amazing how she sleeps with a quiet house. I rearranged Briley's room to make room for the crib and I think it is going to be all right. I still need to paint furniture that our neighbor is giving us, make a sign that I am going to put over Finley's crib, and add some pictures of the two of them, but that might have to wait until after the baby comes. I also spent my nights watching Downton Abbey. I'm almost through season 2, and it was nice to be able to sit down and relax a little.
The ski trip looked like it was full of fun and a trip to Iowa without any ice storms, speeding tickets, etc so that is good. I loved getting all of Andy's video's and pictures throughout the day. It was weird not being there with them, but I did get a lot done around the house. They got home Sunday and it was early enough that the kids got to go out and enjoy the beautiful weather. They have spent the last two days outside playing. It reached 65 degrees yesterday which was incredible. Such a teaser though because you know it will be -10 in a week or two...probably about the time I go into labor.
A little side note, I did find out at my last doctor's appointment that my doctor has liver cancer. He told me that the tumors have shrank which is good news, but he has a hard battle ahead of him. He is going to Philadelphia for treatment so I'm not sure if he will be here when the baby is born or not, but I hope he is able to deliver our last one. It breaks my heart to hear this news because he has been my doctor for eight years, and is such a great guy. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
