Valentine's weekend was spent walking, lunging, massage with essential oils, pineapple, swinging, and spicy food all to get Mr. Atticus to come with no results. I went to the doctor on Monday for an NST and everything seemed to all be fine. My doctor was out of town so I saw Dr. Blevins. She walked in and asked me how long I would like to continue to have the baby bake. I said I was ready when ever she was. She was doing surgery at another hospital on Tuesday so Wednesday, February 18th was the day. All our babies have been born on a Wednesday so it was only fitting that he too be born on that day of the week.
My Mom came down the night before to watch the kids while we went to the hospital. I tucked them all into bed and we read a story, and then it was off to bed for us. I tried to get sleep that night, but I was a little anxious about being induced. At 4:45 I was up and eating breakfast while Andy took his shower, and we began to leave. Of course, Briley and Baylor were up to see us go about 5:45. Baylor promised me that he would give me a hug when he came to the hospital, and that he would miss us.
We arrived at the hospital, checked in, and my water was broke at 7:20a.m. After the baby settled down, I was free to walk. We walked up and down the halls until the two hour mark and then I was checked. I started as a 3 and 60% and two hours later I was a 4 and 60%. Dr. Blevins decided to start pitocin, but since I was a V-BAC I was given a small dosage and it was upped every 30 minutes. I hung in there until about a 6 and then received my epidural. I fight low blood pressure when I have had all my babies and so again I was given a low dosage in my epidural so I didn't get sick. The epidural only worked on my right side of the body at first so I could still feel my contractions on the left side. I finally said it was time for another dosage in the hopes that my left side would start to numb up. She checked me and said I was a 91/2 so she gave me another dose and it took effect right before I began to push.
At 3:44 p.m. Mr. Atticus entered our world at 8 pounds 5.5 ounces and 20 1/2 inches tall. He beat Baylor by 1 ounce. The nurses were all gathered around watching and telling me every detail of his body as he came. They talked about his big cheeks, hair, broad shoulders, and long fingers and toes. They couldn't wait to get him on the scale to see how big he was. I held him for quite awhile before they took him to check everything out. After they got him all cleaned up, everyone came in to see him. How perfect to have two girls and two boys! Our family is complete and we are truly blessed beyond measure.
We stayed at the hospital until Friday because Atticus had some stuff in his lungs and they wanted to watch him a little longer. It was actually kind of relaxing to stay at the hospital on Thursday, and spend all of our time with him before going home to our circus. We left Friday morning and it was in the upper 30's. My Mom, Lissy, Amity, Baylor, and Finley greeted us when we got home. After lunch, Andy and I took a nap while Lissy began pictures of Atticus. I really missed most of it so it will be a fun surprise when she gets them all finished. I went to Target that night with my Mom and Amity and bought a few little outfits for Atticus because I just can't resist it, and later that night my Dad and Asa came to town.
Atticus was not much of a sleeper for us Friday night and I was just exhausted Saturday. It was a beautiful day and the kids played outside, and then Andy's parents, Ellie, Jackson, and Lincoln came to town that evening. Lucy and Frank also came over to visit that night for dinner and a few drinks. After everything settled down it was time to start our bedtime routine. Andy and I laugh about how much we dread going to bed because the night is so exhausting. The only place Atticus likes to be is in Andy's arms. Again we had a long night.
Sunday morning my Dad and Asa left and the rest of the Farwell clan came down to visit. After lunch, they began to leave and the twins were caught trying to steal Baylor's trains. It was too funny and I really should have gotten a picture of them crying as the trains were pulled out of their pockets. Baylor is not so sure about them coming to his birthday this year;)
My sister left Monday morning and my Mom took her to the airport. Later that afternoon, Andy and I snuck out to go to the movies. We went to see American Sniper at the Cinetopia which is a theater with a living room setting that serves food and drinks. The movie was really great and I am glad we got the opportunity to go see it. It was nice to get away for a few hours. That night my Mom took Briley and Baylor to see Paddington and I think they all really enjoyed that too. While they were away, we gave Atticus his first bath. He loved it and started screaming when I began to take him out. We began our nightly routine and before we knew it, it was Tuesday.
My Mom left Tuesday morning and we went to get my new Mother's ring sized. Andy and the jeweler actually designed it and I could not be happier. It is beautiful, and simple which is just what I like. After that we went to Home Depot to look at dishwashers. We walked out with a new dishwasher, oven, and microwave; Happy birthday to me...and Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Andy's birthday. Last night Andy made chicken and dumplings with fried apples which he has not done in a long time. We finished off the evening with an ice cream cake. I don't think my birthday could have been any better! Atticus even decided to sleep a little during the night. We flipped him to his stomach and he slept. It was pure bliss.
