First Week of School and Andy's First Hospital Stay

It really hasn't been that long since I posted, but it feels like months have passed.  So much has happened in the last couple of weeks in our household!  Briley and Baylor started school exactly two weeks ago.  Baylor is in second grade and his teacher is Ms. Bode.  She is a younger teacher, and I really think she and Baylor are going to hit it off.  Briley is in 6th grade and that seems to be going as well as middle school can go.  She does have to go to school an hour earlier than Baylor so that has been an adjustment.
Finley and Atticus don't go to school until after Labor Day so they are home with me for a few more weeks.  We have been having park days, and spending time at the pool.  I'm also making lists of all the things I want to start working on when they all get into school.  I seem to have a lengthy list for this fall.
Two Fridays ago Baylor had his first soccer game.  It was quite the adjustment for him as they went to 7v7 and played positions on a larger field.  He was a forward but kept running all over the field.  By the second half he was exhausted.  They lost, and that hasn't happened in over a year for them.
That night Andy complained of his stomach feeling bloated, and we thought maybe it was the Chipotle we had eaten although we had gotten the same thing and I was fine.  He went to bed early, and got little sleep.  The next day he laid around the house all day with a stomach ache.  Briley said the flu was going around her school so I thought maybe he had gotten that.
I took the kids to the neighborhood party that night down the street.  It is a party the kids always look forward to because the fire truck comes and turns on the hose for the kids to play in.  The party was just getting started when Andy called me to say that he thought he should go to the hospital.  I quickly got a neighbor girl to watch our kids for us, and then came home.  We should have had the talk before about what hospital to go to in case of an emergency because he was just yelling at me to get in the car and go, and I wanted to research where to go.  In the end, I took him to Menorah hospital because it was the closest.  We got right in and they ran ct scans.  The verdict was his appendix needed to come out.  They said we caught it early enough so he would not have surgery until the next day.  I ran home to take the babysitter home and get his bag of things he would need.  The kids were in bed, and I told Briley I would be right back.  I ran back up to the hospital to give him his things, and then left.  I really did not like leaving him in his situation, but I also had to be home to watch the kids until morning when we could get someone.  I left my phone by the bed and honestly did not get a lot of sleep worrying about him.
The next morning my brother came to save the day.  He showed up around 8:00am, and I went to the hospital.  The doctor had already been in and scheduled his surgery for that afternoon.  He was leery of the radiologists saying it had not yet ruptured because to him it had looked like it had. He wanted to pump him full of antibiotics before they started surgery just in case.  He was pretty miserable all day long, and I felt awful for him, and there wasn't much I could do.  His parents showed up that afternoon, and stayed through his surgery.
The anesthesiologist came to the room around 3:00 to get him.  He said he was bored so he decided to walk up and bring him down to surgery.  This ended up being a really funny situation because he couldn't find an elevator to fit Andy's extended bed.  The elevator door kept hitting the bed, and we could not stop laughing as the doctor tried.  Finally a nurse came to the rescue and shortened Andy's bed.  We made it downstairs and the doctor talked to him for a bit before surgery.  While he was in there, we invaded the vending machines for food.  I didn't want to eat in front of him and by 3:00 I was starving.  When surgery was complete, the doctor came out to talk to us.  He showed us pictures of his appendix, and it was pretty amazing how bad it was.  He had a gangrenous appendix with inflammation.  He had a calcified blockage that killed part of his appendix and it had partially ruptured.  He said it was lucky that he had come in because he very well could have gone septic.
We met him back up in his room, and he was one happy guy. Possibly due to the meds he was on, but he said he felt like a million bucks.  His parents left that evening and I stayed until about 8:30.
Lissy had come into town earlier to take over watching the kids.  She took the kids for Mexican, and told them it was Finley's birthday.  Oh my that girl about lost it when they came to sing to her.  So embarrassed. I laugh every time I watch the video.
Atticus woke up the next morning with pink eye.  I called Andy's dad, and went by to get the drops later that afternoon.
Andy was great in the morning, but as the day wore on he became more and more uncomfortable.  His stomach had really blown up and he had illeus.  We walked the halls trying to get things to wake up and begin moving, but had no luck.  He then started to vomit, and that lasted into the evening.  At around 10 they decided to try a NG tube.  I'm telling you that has got to be one of the worst things to go through.  I wasn't even the one getting it and I thought I was going to faint as they tried to put it in.  It was awful and he couldn't do it so they stopped trying.  They did give him some different medicine for nausea and it began to work.  He relaxed enough that he was able to go to sleep.  I left around 12:00 that night, and was beyond relieved that Lissy had gotten birthday decorations up for Finley.  I ate some leftover pizza, and crashed.
The next morning I got up really early to go get doughnuts for the birthday girl.  She was awake when I got home, and so very excited about her day.  I got the kids off to school, and then went back to the hospital.  I had gotten a text earlier that morning that he was doing much better, and things were starting to work again.  Such a relief to hear that he would be able to make it home for Finley's birthday!
While I was with Andy, Lissy took Finley and Atticus to the rope park that she loves, they went to eat lunch at McDonald's by our old house because it is the best, and then picked out her birthday cake.  That afternoon they stopped in to see Andy at the hospital before going to Wal-Mart to pick out a "pinana" as Finley would say.
The doctor told Andy he had to eat a meal and take and oral anti-biotic to go home.  By 2:30, neither of these things had happened so I began to harass the nurses a bit, and we got the ball rolling.  We were able to finally leave about 5:30, and that felt wonderful to get out of there.
That evening Finley had requested spaghetti so Andy's parents had ordered some for delivery.  We ate, knocked a "pinana" around, opened presents, and had ice cream cake.  She loved getting a mermaid tail sleeping bag, gymnastics Barbie, make-up kit, and crafts.  She also got some fun new tennis shoes, and an Elsa ballet leotard.  She told me later that night that it was the best birthday she has ever had because Daddy got to come home for it.

So funny story with Atticus and his pink eye.  I had drops sitting on our desk in the kitchen from when Baylor had an ear ache couple of weeks ago.  Lissy thought those were the eye drops and had been using them in his eyes.  Atticus's eyes were not getting better, and then we realized it was the drops.😂  This is him showing Lissy how upset he was with her.
