When we got back from camp we had a few low key days while Baylor got over his nasty cold. On Monday Briley had her dentist appointment to get her three baby teeth pulled out. She had been dreading this day, but it was over quickly.
By Tuesday he was feeling a little better so we went to the zoo because the weather was so nice. We were able to see the baby orangutan, gorilla, and giraffe. I love the energy of these little ones, and the exhaustion on their parents faces. Not so different from us. We made our way throughout the whole zoo, and the only thing we missed was the sting rays but the line was just too long to see them.
Wednesday morning I took Briley and Baylor in for their yearly check up. Briley had the choice of having all her shots or some, and getting the rest next year. She opted for one shot and the rest next year. She didn't cry, but it was a long drawn out process to get it done.
We left for Kirksville on Thursday. I stopped in to see Lisa in the hospital when I got there. She had some complications from surgery so was in there for an extended time. The kids got to see Transylvania 2 with their cousins, and then over to the Farwells for some time on the American Ninja Course.
Friday I made the trip to Shelbina to see Grandma. She was confused about who all the people were in her room, but in good spirits. After that the kids spent the rest of the afternoon swimming with cousins. Andy got into town later that evening, and I went out to my Dads for a little bit that night.
The next day Asa and Kelsey took Andy and I out to see their wedding venue. I beautiful location for their special day.
That evening we had Finley's 5th birthday party. It is hard to believe that my baby girl is turning 5 in a few short weeks. She wanted a princess party again like last year so that is what we did. We had fried chicken with sides, did some swimming, had some yummy cake, and opened presents. She was one excited little girl.
Monday was a big day for Briley. She went to school to get pictures taken, and practice her locker combination. It took a lot of practice, but I think we got it figured out. My goodness as hard as it is to believe Finley is 5, it is harder to believe that Briley is in middle school. We decorated her locker with pictures, and put her school supplies away.
Andy left for San Antonio on Wednesday, and I thought I would take them to Donutology for making your own donuts. It was a bit of a mess with Finley upset that she didn't actually get to make her doughnuts, and Atticus not sitting still, but we made it through.
Andy took some pictures of the Alamo, a romantic dinner on the river walk by himself, and the Sea World fireworks.
Briley's good friend Faith came to stay with us on Saturday night. She was visiting for a week to move her brother back to college at KU, and waiting for their papers to come through for their move from France to Ireland. Andy and I said it was very tempting to go visit them in the next two years while they were living in Ireland. I think they are going to enjoy it more than they did France.
The girls spent the night swimming, playing outside, watching movies, raiding our kitchen, and catching up. It is funny how after a year of not seeing each other they took off right where they left off.
We finished up our summer on Monday with a trip to the rope park, and got a few last minute supplies at the store. That afternoon I took the kids to get shaved ice before going to the elementary school to meet Baylor's teacher. They have an ice cream social on the playground before they let you into the school and it is a mad house so I chose to show up after the chaos. The kids loved their shaved ice more I think than the ice cream cones at school anyway. Andy came home early and we went to school to meet his teacher Mrs. Bode. She seems very nice, and I think he is going to like being in her class. She is young, and spent a few years traveling the world before she began teaching at Mission Trail. He has some friends in his class, and I pray he has a good year.
Monday officially marked the last full day of summer. It flew by so fast at times, and not fast enough at other times. I think everyone is ready to get back on a schedule, and after the Donutology experience I was at the end of planning fun summer outings. Overall, we had one of the best summers ever with a lot of memories made, and when they talk about making the most of the 18 summers you have with your kiddos, I think we accomplished it.

Andy thinks this should be our Christmas picture this year.
