Atticus's birthday was on President's Day this year so we were all home for it. He woke with balloons in his room, and I could hear him as he came down the stairs. He inspected each decoration that I had put up, and then went to the garage to see if we got him that motorcycle or airplane that he had asked for. Very disappointed to not see them in the garage.
I got up to make him pancakes with sprinkles on them. We had a big breakfast and then went to the J for a little bit. The kids shot some hoops for awhile, and then we came back home. My Mom came later that afternoon, and we went out to an early dinner at Mi Ranchito. Finley made sure they knew that it was his birthday. He made me laugh so hard I had tears running down my cheeks when they started singing to him. He was so uncomfortable by the whole thing.
That night he opened his presents, and had some cake. He was very excited about his bike, his fire truck, his gumball machine/watch, and little people zoo. He also got a little set of Incredible character because that is another obsession right now.
We had some cake after that and then it was time to get ready for bed. He had a great birthday and I think he approved of almost everything.
It is really hard for me to believe that Atticus is four. In a little over a year my baby will be off to Kindergarten, and that is a crazy thought for me although he reminds me all the time that he is a big boy.
I worry about this one because he doesn't really have fear, and has always been our wonderer. At the same time he is the one that could get completely lost and find his way home with no problem. He is so independent. If he wants batteries, he will move the trash can over to the counter, climb up, and get them. If he wants a drink he grabs the stool, gets a cup, and pours. He has no patience to wait for me to help him.
He is also our bossy one, or I guess all of our children tend to be bossy. He really thinks he rules this house, and sometimes he truly does. He likes things a certain way, and expects that to be done. He can be so persistent. Getting out Christmas decorations just about drove us crazy as he instructed us what should go where. Sometimes I want to pull my hair out, and other times it just makes me laugh.
I hear the words"right Mom" at least 10,000 times a day. He talks and talks and always ends with, "right Mom?" as he waits for my response.
He loves watching his sister leave for school each day. He watches her pull out of the drive with her friend, and then runs to the sun room to watch them drive by. They always slow down so he has time to get there.
Our first child and now our last child sleep in our room just about every night. Briley used to always come in our room until Baylor got big enough to sleep in a big bed with her. Now Atticus bypasses his siblings and heads to our room each night. We have his sleeping bag under the bed just like we did with Briley, and he gets it ready and goes to sleep. Often times I don't even realize he came in.
He loves his trains, trucks, tractors, and cars. He has spent his whole winter down in the basement with the Holy Express playing and about three trains set up around the room. His obsessions are sometimes intense until he moves on to the next one.
I know one day this boy will move mountains with his determination, and creativity. He wins the hearts of everyone he meets including ours. We love you buddy!
