Our kids celebrated their May Crowning at Church on Tuesday. I always love staying to watch. The kids are all so sweet singing the "Evening Prayer," and taking their flowers up to give to Mary. Briley was selected to crown Mary this year which surprised me because she was chosen when she was in second grade also. After they were done, the kids said their farewells in their classes because this was their last class of the year.
May Day was on Wednesday so we worked on baskets, and the kids delivered them after school. We had a softball game that night so we had to get them done early. This year we had two left on our doorstep while we were gone which was fun. One was the kids across the street from us, and the other was our neighbor Sherie. She was funny to watch sneaking up to our door, and then running back to her house.
We hosted the Traveling Mary this week at our house from Church. The kids loved giving her the flowers, and Finley gave her a crown to wear.
Friday afternoon my Dad and Andy's parents came for Baylor's First Communion on Saturday. We went out to eat at Q39, and then my Mom and Jeff stopped by our house when they got to town.
The next day was Baylor's big day! It was his First Communion, and he was so very excited. He was up by 6:15 a.m. and ready to get the day started. He told his Grandma Early that morning that it was the best day of his life. We ate breakfast and then I took him along with Andy's parents to the Church to save seats and get a few pictures before the crowds. I then took him downstairs to meet with his class. I was worried that they may say something because he was wearing his Dad's linen suit instead of the dark suit that they asked the kids to wear, but he got several compliments from the teachers saying he was very dapper. The director thought it was so sweet and sentimental that the suit was passed down.
The mass was perfect for this age group. Father Brian is relatable to whoever he is talking to, and today he was talking directly to the children. He held up pictures and asked them if they were a thing, person, or place. The last picture was of the Eucharist or body of Christ as Baylor said when he called on him. The answer to that question was a person. It is a hard concept to grasp, but Father Brian did a great job explaining it to them before they walked up.
We sat in the front row, and I thought it would be perfect for pictures, but just as Baylor walked up to receive the Eucharist, a girl stepped right into the way of my picture. He skipped the wine which was right in front of our pew, and went to sit back down. It's funny because Briley of all people loved the wine when she had her First Communion, but Baylor was not going to have it.
After mass, we went back to the house to open his presents, and have Stroud's. He was very excited about a box that his Grandma gave him to hold all his rosaries, compasses, religious jewelry, and cards in. He also bugged me until I got his cross up on his wall. St. Michael has found a spot on his shelf, and we need to sit down and read some of his books that he got.
Baylor has been counting down the days to his First Communion for awhile now, and he was so sweet to watch. He takes everything with such seriousness. May your faith always guide you Baylor.
