May has been so busy, but we have had a lot of fun. Mother's Day was spent at home this year. The kids had games on Friday and Saturday. This was the last weekend of soccer for Briley until the fall.
Finley came in my room with a big smile holding her gift for me Sunday morning. She had made a sweet little card, and a flower made out of her handprint that was painted on canvas. She was so excited to give this to me. She had hurried home on Friday to hide it in her room so I wouldn't see it until the big day. Andy had went out to get me coffee from Starbucks so that was sitting on my night stand when I got up. We then went to Church that morning, and then we were supposed to have breakfast delivered, but they cancelled our order because they were so busy. Andy was mad, but I was fine just eating something at home. We had plans for dinner that night so I was looking forward to that.
The day was busy doing the usual stuff to get ready for school the next day. I always tell myself to relax on Mother's Day, but then I think of the mounds of laundry that I will have to deal with the next day, and have to at least do a little.
That evening we went to Jess and Jim's for dinner. The food was delicious, and the kids all enjoyed their food too. The kids gave me a pair of Allbird's, Baylor gave me a cute little bookmark, and Atticus made me a little picture with questions he answered about me. Andy surprised me with a trip to the Elms in Excelsior Springs for a massage with my Mom and Amity. I have been wanting to check this out for a long time. I have only been there once for a wedding, and have wanted to see the spa that so many talk about. Such a fun gift!
The next week was a bit of a whirlwind for us. So many things going on. Amity came on Wednesday evening to visit. My Dad had come early in the day so he and I went to get her from the airport. The kids were all looking forward to having her visit.
We took Finley and Atticus to the zoo the following day. Amity said she couldn't remember the Kansas City zoo so we showed her part of it. It was really hot that day so unfortunately a lot of the animals were not out. I hate it when that happens, but we did catch the sea lions show and that is always fun.
That night we had Briley's softball game. She played well, and had a hit. We stopped for ice cream afterwards to celebrate the win.
Friday was Atticus's last day of school. He loved his teacher so much this year, that I think he was sad the year was coming to an end. I can't believe that we only have one more year before he is in Kindergarten. He has grown so fast.
After we picked him up we headed to Roe Park to visit with one of Amity's good friends. It was good to see her and her two kids. Finley and Atticus loved playing in the splash park, and it was hard to get them to leave.
That evening we stopped by Baylor's last soccer game before heading out to celebrate the future Mrs. Sparks. That night we went to an aerial silks and trapeze class, and I have to say it is not as easy as it was when we were kids climbing up on the trapeze bar on our swing sets. Flexibility and upper body strength are gone for me, but I made it through the class. Afterwards we went back to change and then off to a dinner at Coco Bolos. After eating, we went to Brew Top to watch the Stolen Winnebagos. Our old neighbor Casey is in the band, and we always have a good time going to see him play. We headed home early to rest for our big busy day tomorrow.
Saturday was a down pour all day long. Kelsey and her friend went to meet up with some people, and Amity, Andy, and I went to Finley's dance rehearsal. Finley gets so excited about being up there on stage. I hope she continues to love dance as much as she does now.
When it was finished, we packed up and went down to the Crossroads for the night. We stayed at the Crossroads Hotel, and it was so neat. It was an old brewery at one time, and they recently renovated it into a hotel. I can't wait to find a reason to go back because it was just so cool.
We got dressed and walked over to the speakeasy Manifesto. The rain had stopped, and it was more of a sprinkle by that point. We got there a little early so we decided to take some pictures of the group outside before going in. Once we were inside, we were taken to a booth in the corner, and ordered our drinks. It is a really neat place with so much history. The building was originally a hotel, and this speakeasy was here during prohibition. It was a popular place for mobsters like Al Capone.
Once we were done we went to Hamburger Marys for appetizers, and the show. I have to say this was such a fun part of the night. We laughed about it the rest of the night.
Next was dinner at the Jacobson. Before going there we stopped back by the hotel to have Kelsey open her presents. After that it was dinner. The food was great at the Jacobson, and we stayed until they started to turn the lights on. We were one of the last two tables left. We talked about continuing on, but ended up just going back to the hotel. Such a fun night out.
The next morning we went to breakfast at Californos in Westport. The waffle I had was so good. I'm going to have to take Briley down there sometime because she would love it. Kelsey's friends left after breakfast, and we went back to my house to get Finley ready for her big recital. My Mom and Andy's parents came to watch her. The recital theme was Funky Town. Her dances were Hot Stuff, and she danced with Andy to My Best Friend. She did a great job, and had a big smile on her face through the whole dance.
On Monday morning, the girls headed off to the Elms while Andy watched Finley and Atticus. We had massages at 12:00 followed by an afternoon in the Grotto. Once we had done all of that, we went up to have lunch in their restaurant before leaving. It was so nice to spend time with both my mom and sister for the day. We don't get that opportunity very often.
Tuesday was Finley's last day of school. They had a little ceremony that morning that we all went to, and she was smiling ear to ear. She loved her friends that she made this year, and her teachers. She also learned a lot, and I know she is more than ready for Kindergarten next year.
That afternoon I took Amity to the airport while my Mom picked up the kids and took them where they needed to go. She ended up leaving on Wednesday because of the storms. She decided to take Finley and Atticus with her to Kirksville, and we became a family of four.
Since I didn't have Finley and Atticus, I went to Baylor's Author event at school and end of the year party. That night we went to Top Golf, and stopped to get ice cream on the way home. I think Briley and Baylor loved getting some extra attention without the other two there.
Thursday night was game night. Both of them had games at 7:30 on fields across from each other so we were able to bounce back and forth. The third field by us had Rex and Stephen playing so it was fun to watch them too.
Friday was officially the last day of school. Briley was out at 10:50 and Baylor at 11:45. We picked him up and headed to Kirksville for the weekend. Briley and I got our dresses fitted one last time once we got to town to make sure the alterations were all right, and the rest of the night was sitting outside enjoying the rare sunshine.
We got up early on Saturday and I took Baylor and Briley to a basketball camp along with Ellie, Lincoln, and Allison. The kids didn't really enjoy the camp because it was a lot of listening, watching and then practicing drills. Baylor thought it would be playing fun games, but Briley has been doing her drills each day so I'm curious to see if it helps her shooting.
On our way back from Hannibal, we stopped to see Grandma. She was happy to see me, but didn't remember who the kids were. I had to tell her several times how old they were, their names, and that they were my kids. She was upset when we left, and that is always hard. I stood in the hall listening to make sure she calmed down before I left. It's always so hard to leave her.
We left Sunday afternoon to go back home because we had a party on Monday. Briley's friend's family always have a big pool party. The kids all had a great time, and the weather was perfect for it. Perfect way to end the weekend, and kick off summer. The kids were excited to finally have a pool to swim in!
I took the kids to the dentist on Wednesday, and I have a couple things I want to make sure I document about that. The dental hygienist loves Baylor and the things he says to her. This time she asked him if he flossed his teeth. He said no one in his family flosses their teeth. She said that we told her we did, and he said we have a lot of liars in our family. She came out laughing to tell me. She also gave us a gift card for Dairy Queen because she says we light up her day when we come in. Finley unfortunately has some cavities, and he is sending us to a pediatric dentist for it. He thinks she may need a root canal so that should be fun.
Whew! I think that is all for now. I know May was crazy, and I am sure June will be the same with a wedding, and vacation but all fun things to look forward too!
