Thanksgiving break began for us with a trip to see my Grandma. She was not well, and so we took a little Christmas tree to her room for the kids to decorate. She was asleep, but she would calm down a little with her breathing when I would rub her arm. We stayed for as long as the kids would allow, and then left. So thankful we were able to spend that time with her as it was the last time.
That night we went to our nieces 13th birthday party. It is hard to believe that Ellie is a teenager, and that Briley will also be 13 in 5 months. They are growing up so fast.
Thursday was Thanksgiving, and we spent the day in Edina having lunch with Andy's side of the family. It was good to see so many people, and our kids love playing at Baring. We came home, and prepared for dinner at his parent's house. It was delicious as always.
Friday morning I got a call from Mom that Grandma was not doing well, and they did not believe that she would make it through the weekend. I got ready, and was prepared to stay until she passed. Andy went with me, and unfortunately she had passed right before we got there. I'm sad that she is gone, but thankful that she is not suffering anymore. We said goodbye, and then went back to my Mom's for the day. She and I went to lunch, and then came home to get things ready for her Thanksgiving meal.
The next day we had our final Thanksgiving dinner at my Dad's house. He had ribs for dinner. They were good, but maybe could have been a little more tender;).
Sunday morning we were up early to get back to Kansas City for the Chiefs game. Andy went to the game while I unpacked, and started looking for clothes for the funeral.
My sister came into town on Tuesday afternoon, and we went back home on Wednesday for the funeral. It was good to see everyone. It seems that you only see people at weddings and funerals, and there were many that I hadn't seen since my Grandpa's funeral ten years ago.
Her funeral was perfect for her. We had it in the Church that she was raised going to, and where she married my Grandpa. Her cousin was the pastor, her other cousin sang, and Asa did a wonderful job with his eulogy. Helen talked about her life as a quilt, and all the pieces that were sewn together to make her life. It's funny because she told of stories of my Grandma as a child that I never knew about. It was all a wonderful tribute to her life.
Friday night Andy and I took the kids to see the Taylors in Pella. We had dinner and talked while the kids played. It was good to see them, and the kids always look forward to playing with cousins. Baylor and Briley went to the Farwells, and had a great time with them.
Saturday was a quick Reindeer Romp run, and then we said goodbye, and came back home. Andy's parents met us at our house as they were on their way back from Branson. We had Baylor and Briley's basketball games that evening. Baylor's team won, and Briley's team lost.
Sunday morning Briley was an alter server at Church. We had breakfast with Santa afterwards. It is always a highlight of the Christmas season although the Santa this year was not quite as good as years past. He just made me giggle.
That afternoon we went to The Nativity puppet show. We haven't taken the kids in awhile so it was fun to go again. It is in a neat old Church downtown. After the show was over, we took Amity back to the airport. It is always nice to have her visit, even if it wasn't for a happy occasion.
This past week we had the Traveling Mary visiting us at home, and it was a perfect week to have her here with us. Finley and Atticus were very sad to see her go yesterday, but it was time for her to move on to the next family. We also had a big snow storm Sunday. We went to Church at 7:30, and when we came out the roads were covered. We spent the day staying home, and a lot of playing outside. Our neighbor came by, and gave the kids crazy rides in his buggy. He then got the idea of tying the sled to the back and drove the kids around the neighborhood. They loved it!
School was cancelled on Monday and so we went to Bass Pro to see Santa. No one was there, and we walked right up. The kids played for a bit with all their toys and then we came home. Now it is time to get them back to school so I can get a few things done around here. Christmas is just around the corner!

Thanksgiving and Christmas Activities
We had the traveling Mary at our house this week, but thinking we might need one that stays because a few were sad to see her go.
Super Atticus is ready to tackle that snow.
