A Grandmother's Love

My Grandma passed away on November 29th, and while I am sad that she is gone, the memories I have with her will always be there.  While I think about my grandparents, it is Grandpa that stands out for the spontaneous trips and activities we would do, and funny stories.  My grandma however has many stories of her own that cannot be overlooked.
I often spent days at their house learning to cross-stitch, sew, and quilt.  I have two quilts that we made together when I was older.  I always loved helping her make deviled eggs at Easter.  Many conversations were spent sitting around their table playing Uno.  In fact, there were many at her visitation that talked about that table.  Other conversations were while my Mom or I dried the dishes as she washed after dinner.   I slept in my grandparent's room on a little cot, and we talked until it was time for me to fall asleep before they did to avoid the snoring that would soon follow.
I went on several trips with them during my childhood, and those were always fun.  We went to Colorado, Minnesota, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Costa Rica.  There were funny stories we think of now that weren't so funny at the time like when the trunk opened up, and our luggage flew out across the road, or the time we didn't think we were going to make our flight home from Costa Rica.  Thinking about us running through the Houston airport still makes me laugh.  Speaking of laughs, she had a laugh that was infectious.  She would start laughing until the tears came.
She was always up for a shopping trip.  We never passed up Crown Shoes, and we never walked out empty handed.  She was always a part of shopping for our prom dresses, and my wedding dress.  Trips to Wal-Mart to get me a few things to take back to college, the Quincy Mall, and of course Jo-Anns.  We thought it was funny that she passed away on Black Friday because that was an important day to get to the mall for shopping and Santa.
She also shares my love of musicals and we went to many, but her favorite was always going to see the Music Man.  She would go anywhere to see that one.
There are memories of Old Settler's, Harvest Fest, Sheep Fest, Easter egg hunts on the courthouse lawn, Fourth of July, and time spent sitting on a neighbor's front porch that I will never forget. It's sad to think that chapter of my life has come to an end. So thankful for the time we had, and the wonderful childhood that she was a part of.  Grandma, you will be so very missed.
