I think we all keep asking ourselves that question these days. The days seem to run together when we are all home with no activities going on. We have tried to make the most of this down time because I know things will start to pick up again soon with baseball and softball officially starting this week.
We kicked off May with May Day. Even though we really are only supposed to be getting essentials, I broke the rules and got flowers. May Day is pretty essential I think. We made baskets, and passed them out to our neighbors who always look forward to the kids bringing them each year.
That night, I had bought a tent for them, and it had came in so we set that up in the backyard. They were so excited to sleep outside. We had the Brawners over, and our neighbors came by for smore's. Emmie decided she wanted to sleep in the tent with the kids so they had their first sleep over. Andy and I got them all settled into bed, and then we came inside. They came in for popcorn, and then water, next was going to the bathroom, and then sneaking into the kitchen for chocolate chips. That is when I told them it was time to settle down, and they did. They made it the whole night without coming in which is pretty amazing. I did not think that would happen at all. They woke up with the sun, and we had some pancakes before Emmie went back home. They are excited to do it all again soon.
The next weekend we celebrated Mother's Day. Andy made a breakfast of french toast with sausage and fruit along with Starbucks coffee. We then spent the day at home watching movies. Briley gave me a cute phone cover with pictures of them on it, Baylor made me a flower bouquet out of paper, Finley gave me a new throw blanket, and one of the neighbors gave Atticus a flower to bring home to me. Finley and Briley also made me foot scrubs. One of our neighbors brought over a bottle of wine for me for Mother's Day. They said that they really had been thinking about me a lot homeschooling all the kids. The night ended with Andy making chicken and dumplings for dinner. It has been a long time since I have had that, and it was so yummy.
One fun little outing that the kids have had was to see the air force flyover in honor of medical workers. The kids were really impressed to see a stealth bomber and other fighter planes. The kids also got very excited for Kona Ice to stop by our house for some shaved ice. Finley got her dance costumes, but sadly she won't have a recital on a stage. She was so disappointed about that more than anything. She loves being on stage. Atticus had a parade by his preschool for his teachers. He was happy to see them all, but also his usual shyness. Briley has been busy making masks for everyone. She even whipped one up the other day for our hair stylist.
We went back to Kirksville May 15 to visit everyone. I don't know if our kids have ever been so excited to go. They had their bags packed and couldn't wait to see their cousins, and go swimming. The Farwells gave Baylor his last birthday gift which was a BME Vlog shirt. That boy was so excited about that, and he wears it every single day. It was beautiful outside Saturday morning so we took a walk at Thousand Hills with Dad. Over the weekend, the kids also road bikes on the Farwells new bike trail, swam all weekend, had sleepovers, and it was all so good for them. We had a dinner Saturday night in honor of Molly and Brad since it should have been their wedding day. Fingers crossed all goes well for the new September date.
This week was officially the last week of homeschooling. I think we were all ready to be done with that for the year. Baylor's teacher started crying when she told the kids goodbye on their last zoom earlier this week, and so the class decided to have a drive by parade by her home. The kids were happy to see her, and she was equally excited to see them. She is that teacher that you hope your child will get, and Baylor learned so much from her.
Briley and her friends have finally gotten back together and she is one happy girl. On Wednesday, she met her friends by the neighborhood pool for a picnic, bike ride, gaga ball at the school, and then to Starbucks for drinks. They ordered their drinks online and wore their masks to pick them up. They love finally having a little freedom, and this one day sparked three days of hanging out together.
This past weekend we went back to Kirksville again. It has been nice to be able to enjoy these beautiful weekends by a pool, and they love getting to see their cousins. This time the Taylors were back, and that made Finley very happy.
The kids went fishing with my Mom and Jeff Sunday morning while Andy, Zane, Allison, and Andrew went on a bike ride. Briley and Atticus both caught fish, and Atticus was ready to leave as soon as he caught his. Finley and Baylor had a few bites, but that was it. It was pretty warm out, and they didn't last too long before they were ready to go.
Later that day my Dad took Atticus to LaPlata to watch some trains. They now have a live web cam at the station so they waved to us. As they were getting ready to leave, my Dad had a flat tire so I drove over to pick them up. They did get to see three trains so Atticus was happy about that.
It was the perfect kick off to summer with swimming, late nights with cousins, homemade ice cream, bike rides, and fishing.
