Live the Extraordinary

This year we had all four kids go to Kamp.  Atticus was very persistent that we let him go.  He told us that it was too boring staying at home with Mom and Dad.  He was very excited about Kamp until the week of, and then he started to get a little nervous.  The others all jumped out of the car when it was time to go, and did not look back at us.  Atticus was a little different.  He got those big tears welling up in his eyes when we hugged him, and then his counselor whisked him off to get snow cones.  Definitely pulled at this Mom's heartstrings when we drove off.  I would have felt better if we were allowed to go in to Kamp like we used to, and get them settled in before leaving.  Definitely fighting for that for next year.

Atticus was in barn 1 for the boys, and Charlotte was in Barn 1 for the girls.  Finley and Lola were in barn 3, and were very excited to be together this year.  Baylor was with Brady in cabin 7, and Briley was in cabin 11 with Ellie.  Even though the kids were at Kamp, my time at home was spent searching pictures all day to see if I could spot them, and know they were having fun.  By the end of the week, Andy and I still weren't sure whether Atticus was having a good time or not.  Finley looked like she was living her best life, and always posing for the camera.  We wondered if she just followed that photographer around all week.  Baylor looked like he was having fun, and we couldn't find Briley in a picture for days.

While they were at Kamp, Andy and I painted Briley's room white.  Andy said it was the least satisfying painting project that he has done, but I said it really is the trend right now.  It's weird to think that it is the last time we will probably do that room for her before she leaves for college.  We also went down to the Westbottoms to find a dresser for her with no luck.  We did however, get some yummy BBQ at a new place down there.

We also went out to dinner with some good friends one night, and then had some visitors.  My brother had surgery on his hip that Monday here, so my Mom and Asa's brother in-law Jarret spent the night.  All went well with his surgery, and then he went home right after.

Andy and I went to Big Cedar on Wednesday to spend a couple of days.  We had a room booked, and then was informed that it was canceled the day before.  We had booked through a timeshare, and the owner couldn't be contacted.  We were able to piece together rooms at the Angler's Lodge one night, and Springview another.  We saw a beautiful sunset at the Top of the Rock at dinner our first night.  The next day Andy went swimming and worked out.  He surprised me with a massage so I wasn't waiting for him.  I love their spa so much.

After the massage, we met up for lunch, and then off to the pool where Kaitlin and Zane joined us.  We had dinner that night at Devil's Pool with the Sedlaks, Farwells, and Taylors who had all just gotten into town to pick the kids up.

The next morning, we were up bright and early to get breakfast before going to get the kids.  Briley and Baylor were first to be picked up.  Briley said she had so much fun.  She loved her counselors, and she knew all the girls in her cabin from the previous year.  She got the Barnabas award this year along with Baylor.  Baylor said this was the best year yet.  He loved his first year at K-7. He also had some kids in his cabin from previous years.  One of them, lives here in Leawood, and we have since seen him at the pool and at Andy's triathlon last weekend.  Baylor really liked his counselors this year, and I could tell they were a big part of why his week was so great.

We then went to get the younger kids at K- Kountry.  One boy was very excited to see us.  Atticus spotted us coming down the hill, and took off running.  He had a big smile on his face until we hugged him, and then the tears started to come.  He told us he had fun, and he did a lot of things, but he missed us.  I think next year will be better for him since he will be older.  Atticus got the Heart award this year.  Finley loved all of camp.  She got the I'm Third award which is awarded to one girl and one boy each term.  God first, others second, and I'm third.  It's probably the biggest award you can get at Kamp, and you can only get it once.  We are so proud of her.  Jackson also got the I'm Third award this year for K-7.

We loved hearing all their stories on the way home.  I hope these are memories that they will always cherish.  I also love to see their faith grow stronger.  Briley has been doing her devotional daily along with Finley.  Atticus has been singing the songs, and Baylor loves telling us Kamp stories.
