Heading to the Pumpkin Patch

"We're kicking off our fun old fashion family Halloween by heading out into the country in the old front-wheel drive to embrace the frosty majesty of the fall landscape and select that most important of Halloween symbols."

Does this quote sound familiar? This is exactly how we felt when we bundled up this weekend and headed to the Pumpkin Patch. Usually it is 80 degrees when we head out, but I don't think we are going to get a day like that this October so we braved the cold and went. Amity was lucky enough to be here this past weekend so she got to go to. Lucky her! Briley enjoyed seeing all the baby animals. She thought the piglets were cute and she was not so sure of the baby cow that kept mooing for her to pet him. After we checked out all the animals, and played on the playground, we got on the tractor for a hayride out to the pumpkin patch. Andy was willing to pay the extra money to buy the pumpkins that were already picked, but I felt we needed to go pick our own. We slopped through the mud and came out with four pumpkins. Afterwards, we headed back to the house and stayed in the rest of the day.

Andy made one of my absolute favorite meals on Sunday afternoon! My sister and I love chicken and dumplings and he was sweet enough to make it for us before Amity had to catch the train back to St. Louis. I also made an apple pie to round out the day of yummy comfort foods. It was the perfect meal for a cold day. I just wish he would make them more often:)
