Last Friday Andy got home just in time from Minneapolis to get the kids in their costumes and head out to Deanna Rose for Night of the Living Farm. The kids look forward to going to this each year, and it is one of the few fall activities that Andy doesn't complain about doing. The money goes to a good cause, the kids get to wear their costumes an extra time, and they have free kettle corn and egg nog:) Briley decided that this year she was going to be brave and do the scary hay ride so Andy and Briley did that while Baylor and I walked around to look at the animals. We then did the non-scary hayride, danced with the princesses, went on a scavenger hunt through the woods, played some games, and then headed for home. We still are not brave enough for the haunted barn, but maybe next year.
The next morning we were up and out the door for Hannibal to go to a wedding for an old friend. In between the ceremony and reception we took the kids downtown to see the Mark Twain stuff. Briley watched the movie this summer so she was all about checking that out. We also saw a train and then Briley, Baylor, and Andy made the trip up to the lighthouse while Finley and I walked around. After going back to the reception for awhile, we drove to Shelbyville to spend the night with Great Grandma. The kids really had a great time checking everything out and having a room with two beds. All though when Andy and I went in to check on them they were sleeping in the same bed together. They just can't be separated.
The next morning we left to meet my Mom in Macon for lunch and then it was on for home. This week the kids had parent-teacher conferences so Briley and Baylor were home on Thursday and Friday. They got an early Christmas present from Great Grandma for a membership to the Prairiefire Museum so we checked it out. All three kids loved it! We were there for two hours and Baylor did not want to leave. They have an exhibit that rotates and right now it was mythical creatures. They liked looking at everything, but I think it was a little over their heads. We then headed up to the Discovery Room and that is where the fun was. They had fossils to dig up, which Finley loved, animals to look at with magnifying glasses, microscopes, drawers full of things to look at, and an astronomy room. Too much fun for all of them, and very hands on.
On Friday I took the kids to the pumpkin patch to get their pumpkins and decided it might be my last trip solo. I put Finley in the wagon and pushed it along while they tried to find their pumpkins. It was muddy and the wagon was hard to pull especially when we added three pumpkins to it. I thought I was going to collapse. After paying, we went home and it was time to get the house ready for our pumpkin carving party that night. I made soups, dessert, and a couple of dips to eat, and got out the old decorations. Andy came home early to get the garage ready for carving and the fire pit out. It was a gorgeous night! Unfortunately we didn't have as big of a turn out as usual due to the World Series, high school football game, and a long weekend so people went out of town. It did make it more relaxed though which was nice. The party lasted till almost 11 and then we closed our garage doors and collapsed into bed.
The next morning Briley had her last soccer game and it was at 8:15 in the morning. I think we were all a little exhausted, but Briley did muster enough energy to score a goal. After the game, Briley went with her friend to the Lake of the Ozarks and it looks like they are having fun. Rayna's Grandma made them matching costumes to wear for trick or treating on the strip which they did right when they got to town. That evening they took the house boat out and Briley got to drive it, and then they got some swimming in at the pool. She gets back in about an hour and Baylor is ready for her.
Baylor did have a birthday party today while Finley was napping. Andy and I enjoyed a quiet lunch together, and that is a rarity.
This week is another full week with our third trip to a pumpkin patch for Baylor's school field trip, Halloween parties at school, and then of course Halloween.
