After we got home from Christmas, I began the process of putting everything away while Andy began work on the mantle. He had the old one ripped out the night we got home in fact. The kids spent their days playing with their new toys, spending too much time watching tv, and playing outside in the snow. I took them to the Museum of Prairiefire one day, and one of Briley's best friends from school was there so that was fun. The exhibit they have on display right now is the history of horses. It was really kind of interesting, and I would like to go back without the kids to read more. They kind of hurry me through.
We decided to have a New Year's Eve party this year. We were hesitant to do it because we didn't want it to become something people expected us to do every year. We kind of like to be in bed by the New Year;) We are old souls. Anyway, we mustered up the energy, and invited the neighbors over. Andy and I felt like we were on extreme home makeover trying to get the house in decent shape since he had been working on the mantle all day. He got the tv hung, and working while I got the house cleaned up with a few minutes to spare. The kids played the jelly bean game and pie face. They also had a lot of fun playing in the basement. We ended up celebrating the New Year with New York, and everyone began to head home. It was a fun party, and if it ends at 11:00 every year we might just do it again. Great way to begin 2016!
Andy finished the mantle project this past Sunday, and I must say it looks beautiful. I really didn't realize how much I didn't like our old mantle until I saw the new. Andy really did a great job putting it all together, and I am amazed every time I walk into the room. I'm afraid we are going to put so much into this house that we won't ever be able to leave it.
