Sweet Summer time!

It is hard to believe that two weeks of summer are already gone.  We have been busy going to the zoo, Briley took a trip to St. Louis, Matilda at Starlight, a puppet show at the Doughnut Lounge in Westport, and softball/baseball.  We have gotten in the summertime groove, and we are having fun.
We went to the zoo a couple of weeks ago for a quick trip before rain storms.  We went on the train ride through Australia, saw the orangutans, koalas, penguins, polar bear, kangaroos, and tigers.  The orangutans were very active, and one came right up to the window to say hello to Finley.
Briley has been kicking off summer with her first service project.  She has made bracelets to sell for the Mercy House of Kenya.  This is a safe house for young girls and their babies.  They give them food, shelter, and education.  It has been a group that I have followed for several years, so I was excited for Briley to do this project.  It was a fun one for her I think.

Last Saturday we we had Allison, Sara, Ellie, and Bella in town to see Matilda at the Starlight.  We went to Garozzos for a yummy dinner, and then we were off to the show.  I really recommend this show for their ages.  It had a lot of fun dance numbers, and effects.  It is also a great story.  Briley loves Roald Dahl books so she was very excited to see it.
The next day Briley went with Sara, Bella, and Ellie to St. Louis for some more fun.  Lissy took them to the Jungle Book, they went to Sky Zone, and paddle boarding.  I drove to Columbia to pick her up, and she talked about their adventures the whole way home.  She had an awesome time!  Thank you Lissy for planning such a fun trip for them.
I took Baylor Finley, and Atticus to the ropes park while Briley was gone.  They had a lot of fun playing, and Baylor is getting braver with his climbing.
Finley and Baylor also had a movie night while Briley was gone.  As usual, Baylor fell asleep during the movie, and Finley covered him up with one of her blankets and then came upstairs to hang out with us.  Finley will stay up all night if we let her.  It never fails that Briley and Baylor will fall asleep, and she will stay up until we put her to bed.
This week I got adventurous and decided to take the kids down to Westport for a Paul Mesner Puppet Show.  I have loved this puppet company since I was little and they would come to Kirksville for assemblies at school.  I think they are the best.  They were doing a free show at the Doughnut Lounge for National Doughnut Day.  We loaded up, and I explained if it was crowded, we would not stay.  As we pulled up it didn't look too bad so we found a parking spot and went in.  It is a bar/doughnut shop so they had some fun doughnuts flavors, and orange beer/coffee beer to go with it.  I didn't get a beer, but they did look good.  The kids got their doughnuts and as we looked for a spot a family got up and said we could have their seat.  It was right in front of the puppet stage.  The kids loved the show, and their doughnuts.
We also have been playing outside a lot.  The kid's pool was closed earlier in the week so we got out our water toys for some fun.
My Mom and Jeff came this weekend for a softball game and Baylor's first t-ball game.  Briley was playing the team she played her first game so we knew it was going go to be rough.  This team is undefeated, and they should be in the upper division, but for some reason they play down so they can dominate.  The coach is a little crazy on this team too.  We lost about 30 to 0 the first game.  This time around was a little different.  We lost, but we scored on them several times.  Our coach told the girls to watch the third base coach and steal if he said to.  We stole some bases, and the game ended up being pretty close.  Their coach was getting really mad about us stealing all the bases.  I think he likes to not only win, but by a lot.  We gave them a game so we were very proud of the girls for doing their best.
Baylor had his first game, and it was as entertaining as it always is with little boys.  Someone hits the ball and the whole team has to go after it.  They are just too funny.  I didn't get any decent pictures because the sun was so bright.

This week we went to wash the car, and that is terrifying for Finley.  She gets worked up anytime I take her to the carwash.  I just had to get a picture of her face as we go through.
