I blinked, and August was almost gone. What a crazy busy month it was for us. After returning home from picking Briley up at Kanakuk, we had a short three days before school began. We spent our last days of summer at the pool, going to parks, and a trip to the Prairiefire Museum. Last few days at the pool have been fun. Baylor finally got brave and did the diving board and the slide. Now he and Briley can go off and have fun together.
On Wednesday morning, the kids got the emails from their teachers which told them who they had, and who was in their class. We knew Baylor would have Mrs. Nichols because she is the only half day kindergarten teacher, and Finley would have Mrs. Donaldson for preschool just like Baylor had. The only one who didn't know who they were going to get was Briley, and she likes all three fourth grade teachers. As I said she liked them all, but I think she was a little excited to hear that she got Mrs. Feldman. She is the coach for Girls on the Run so Briley already knows her well. That afternoon we took our school supplies to school, and met the teachers.
Thursday morning was the first day of school, and our kids were excited. We had pancakes for breakfast, and then we were off. We got everyone dropped off at school, and then we waited because Finley's was just a little open house. I cannot tell you how excited that girl was to start school. She chatted with anyone who would listen to her about preschool. I hope she always is this excited for school.
On Friday, my Mom came to watch the kids while Andy and I took a quick trip to Tampa to meet Emmie Grace. My Mom and I took the kids to the movies to watch Pete's Dragon Friday night before we left. It is completely different from the original movie, but I still liked it. Baylor and Briley both enjoyed the show.
Andy and I left Saturday morning for Tampa to meet Emmie. It was such a nice relaxing weekend that we thoroughly enjoyed. It was great to get some snuggles with Emmie, and visit with Jared, Caroline, Kaitlin, and Allison.
We went to the beach on Sunday afternoon, and it was beautiful. It was so nice to actually sit and read my book without chasing a toddler into the water. I was able to finish one book, and begin a new one. The first one was called The Two Family House. It was about how you choose how you are going to live your life. Life is not always easy, but you have the choice about how you will overcome tragedy. Within a family, different paths were chosen. The second book I am reading is Ordinary Grace, and I love it so far. It kind of reminds me a little of To Kill a Mockingbird in a way.
The weekend was also filled with some delicious restaurants and bars to cap off the weekend. Thank you Caroline and Jared for showing us a great time. I know the next time we see Miss Emmie she will be so much bigger. Amazing how fast that first year goes!
