Charleston Getaway

After Finley's birthday, we made a quick trip to Charleston.  Andy had to go look at properties there, and I have always wanted to go, so we made it a getaway before my upcoming surgery. We left on a Tuesday morning, and went to look at the properties that Andy needed to see for work.  We checked that off the list, and headed downtown to our hotel.  We spent the rest of the day walking the beautiful streets.  That evening we had dinner at 82 Queen.  They were friendly, and it was a cute place.  I ordered a glass of white wine, and I have not had that for so long, and it tasted so good along with the shrimp and grits.

That night we signed up for a ghost tour that was so much fun.  We did the late slot to make it extra spooky;) Our storyteller was entertaining to listen to, and we learned a few things along the way.  The tour concluded at the oldest graveyard behind the Unitarian Church.  She said it is one of the most haunted of the graveyards, and proceeded to tell us the stories of some of the ghosts that have been sighted there.

The next day, Andy ran, and I walked through town.  We met back at the hotel and then off to a yummy little breakfast spot where I got all things southern.  Fried green tomato on a crab cake with and egg on top, and a biscuit on the side.  We did the Powder Magazine museum, and strolled through a few stores before going back to the hotel to get ready for the beach.

We went to Folly Beach for the afternoon, and the weather was perfect.  It was so hot back in Kansas City, and we were a little chilled with the breeze and low 80's on the beach.  Who would have thought we would be escaping the heat by going south.  It was so nice to just listen to the ocean, and read my book for the afternoon.  Andy and I found a little market to get lunch at that reminded us of Modica Market in Seaside.  A day spent at the beach is always a perfect one.

That evening we ate at a place called Magnolia's.  Charleston did not let us down when it came to food.  After months of watching all that I ate, it was nice to splurge on a little wine and dessert.  How can you not order pecan pie in the south?  We then walked through the neighborhoods looking at all the beautiful houses before making our way back to the hotel.

The next day we flew out later so we were able to get our run/walks in, and did some souvenir shopping for the kids.  We had a yummy breakfast, and then went to the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon Museum.  So much history from the Revolutionary and Civil War happened there. We wrapped up our stay with a little BBQ before heading back to the airport.

A very short trip, but it was one that I loved so much.  It was nice to forget about everything going on for a bit, and just enjoy life.
