Summer Fun!

We have done so many things this summer that I need to post about before I forget.  I try to do at least one little outing with the kids each week, and the first week was Deanna Rose.  Finley and Atticus are at the perfect age to love going, and I'm finding that Briley and Baylor are not.  It was the first year that they complained about going.  We checked out all the animals and activities and then got some ice cream before we left.  They did not complain about the ice cream part.
That same week, Atticus decided to climb on Andy's tool chest, and knocked part of it over.  One of the drawers sliced his forehead, and we had to make a trip to Children's Mercy for stitches.  He was very brave throughout it all, and when I told him that I don't want him to do that ever again, he said, "you told me that when I cut my hair."  Well I don't want him to cut his hair or get in his dad's tool chest.  He is the reason we stock our HSA.  Always into something.
Next up was the Tumbleweed Festival.  We have some friends that are concert promoters, and they got a bunch of us tickets to this festival which was at a camp south of town.  Many people camp for three days, but we just went for one night to see the Marshall Tucker Band and Alabama.  Andy dressed up like a redneck for the night, and I don't know as everyone thought he was as funny as we did.  I do have to say we got such a kick out of him though.  Marshall Tucker was not very good at all, but Alabama still had it.  Loved hearing all of our favorite songs from them.  Alabama was the first concert that I ever went to, and so it was fun to see them once more.
The next morning, Briley, Baylor, and I went to work at St. Mary's Food Kitchen in KCK.  We have done this once before, and I am really going to try to get there more often.  It is such an awesome experience for us all to serve others.
The next week we made a trip to the zoo to see the Africa portion.  I forgot that they were having their big Jazzoo event that night so part of it was closed, but we were able to see Africa and that is what the kids wanted to do so it worked out.
Baseball and softball is beginning to wind down.  We have two or three more games before the season is over.  Briley's team has done such a great job.  They have only lost to one team and that was by one point.  Baylor has also had a great season.  He doesn't love baseball because he says it is boring.  All you do is wait...wait to hit, wait for a ball to be hit to you...but he really is pretty good at it.  I'm hoping we can talk him into continuing for another year or two.
Lastly, we recently took the kids to Union Station to see the Reflecting Motion art exhibit.  It was such a cool experience that is really hard to explain.  I wish I could post the video on here so you could actually see it.  It blows with the wind, and as you lay under it you see it coming down to where you feel like you could touch it, and then up it goes again.  Briley thinks that there should be a sound machine that makes the sound that it makes.  They all really enjoyed it.
