Happy Wedding Day

This past weekend we went back to Kirksville to celebrate Asa and Kelsey's wedding.  It is still hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that they are married!  The festivities began for us on Wednesday when Amity and Billy came to town.  We picked them up at the airport, and then went to the Plaza for lunch followed by a trip to the Nelson Atkins Museum.  The art museum has a miniature golf course on the front lawn for the summer, and so we had plans to do that, but the time slots were already filled.  Instead, we went inside to explore.  The kids behaved, and only Briley got in trouble for touching something that she wasn't supposed to.  Afterwards, the kids went to the glass maze outside.  Atticus took off running ahead of me, and ran smack into the glass.  It knocked him off his feet, and he got a goose egg on his forehead to add to the other injuries he just had, but I have to admit it was hard not to laugh at him.
The next day we were off to Kirksville for a day of swimming, and hanging out by the pool.  Juan Carlos, Floria, Mom, Dad, Amity, and Billy all stopped by so it was nice to have a day to relax before the craziness of the weekend.  We also gave Andy his Father's Day gift a little early.  He had been wanting a bike, and so Allison and Andrew helped me get that for him.  He seems pretty excited about it.  I'm sure he will be doing triathlons before we know it.  That night I went over to my Mom's house to make the hotel gift bags for the wedding guests.
The next morning I went out to Whipoorwill with Kelsey and her Mom.  We started setting up the tables, and decorating.  I stayed until about 1:00, and then I thought I had better take the kids home to feed them.  Andy and Baylor went fishing with Asa and his crew.  We went back up to the event center one more time to get the rehearsal dinner area decorated, and then it was time to get ready.
That night we rehearsed inside and outside because the weather was unpredictable for Saturday.  After it was all over we went back to put the kids to bed, and then I went over to finish the wedding favors with my sister.  Kelsey's parents came over and we all sat around talking and drinking wine.  I left about 11:00 and I think the party really got started after that when Asa came back with his friends.  I don't think they all went to bed until 2:00 in the morning.
Saturday was the big day!  We got our hair done that morning.  Finley was so excited!  She loves girly days of getting pampered.  After hair we grabbed some lunch, and then my sister picked Briley and I up to head to Whipoorwill to get ready.  Andy brought the others a little later on, and then it was a few pictures before it all began.
The weather was sunny so we were able to have the wedding outside so that was a relief. It was pretty windy though so that was funny for Briley as her candle lighter went out before she got to the first candle.  She just pretended to light them, and sat down quickly.  The flower girls made me giggle as they through the petals they blew back at them.  They were as cute and funny as flower girls always are.
As Kelsey walked out, I was looking right at Asa, and he just started crying, and I mean not a nice cry but a shoulder shaking ugly cry which then of course made me and Amity start.  I really hope the photographer was aiming at him, and not us because I looked awful.  The ceremony was short, but oh so sweet.  Those two were just so happy that nothing else mattered.
As we walked back into the reception Asa started again crying when he gave Amity and I hugs, and then again with Mom and Dad.  I really don't think I have ever seen him cry like that, but it was sweet.  He and Kelsey were both a mess.  After they got themselves pulled together we went out for pictures, and then it was reception time.
The first dances were cute, and I especially loved my Mom and Asa's.  He used the song 93 Million Miles, and half way through he switched it to Surfin USA.  Such a fun surprise, and they had a good time dancing.
As they began to cut their cake you could see the sunset beginning, and everyone rushed outside.  With the rain that had just moved through, it was an amazing sunset.  Dark clouds on one side of the building and the sun going down on the other.  I cannot wait to see the pictures that the photographer took of them at that moment.
Finley danced the night away.  The girl did not leave the dance floor.  Atticus was out there until about 10:30 and then he fell asleep on Andy's lap.  Briley of course stayed because she wasn't going to miss anything, and Baylor snuck out with Andy's parents.  He was ready for bed.
So much fun to see friends and family that we didn't get to see often enough.  Asa and Kelsey looked like they were having so much fun together, and we really could not be happier for them.  It was an amazing night filled with so much happiness. We wish all the best to Mr. and Mrs. Asa Sparks!
