After camp was over, Baylor's illness was passed along to Briley and Finley so unfortunately we kind of took it easy for the week after camp. Everyone was feeling better by the end of the week, and we took off for Kirksville to celebrate Sully and Finley's birthdays.
Friday afternoon Atticus was out playing with Briley, and he started riding a bike without training wheels in the grass. We took him up to the Church parking lot, and he took right off. We knew he needed his training wheels off of his bike, but just hadn't gotten around to doing it. He was one very excited boy. Andy tried to get Finley to ride her bike as well, but she refused. She says she would rather just ride her scooter.
Saturday morning I was going to head to the grocery store to get things for Finley's party, but my car wouldn't start. This has been happening to me frequently for about a month, but usually if I wait a little bit it will go ahead and start. This time it would not do that, and we had to call a tow truck. We had it taken in to the car shop twice about this, and they could never find anything wrong. They found out the problem in Kirksville relatively quickly, and it was going to be a little high to fix it. After replacing the transmission last year, we hated to put anymore into it. They had a used Suburban on the lot so between Sully and Finley's parties, we bought a car. Not exactly what we had in mind for the weekend, but the new car had just about everything we wanted so it works. The kids of course were very excited about having a new car, and there is a lot more space for them all and Viva in the back.
Sully's birthday was by the pool that afternoon. He was like many one year olds, and didn't know what to think about all the attention. His party was Mickey Mouse themed and awfully cute. We were glad we got to come home and celebrate his special day with him.
Finley's party was fun that evening. She was of course very excited about it all. I'm thankful for everyone who stepped in to help make the side dishes and put up the decorations while I was with Andy at the car dealership. Finley loved her special day, and was so excited to have all her cousins there with her. We did a piƱata, some swimming, opened presents, had dinner, and the cutest mermaid cake. It was a perfect evening.
On Sunday the kids went to see The Lion King that afternoon, and then we went to dinner with my Mom and Jeff at Fort Chariton. On the way home, we stopped at the Cleavers to see how they were doing, and catch up a bit. It was great to see them.
Monday we finished up paper work for the car, and then we were off for home. Andy worked in the car so I got to test the new car out. It is a lot bigger than our old one, but I felt comfortable in it. It was sad to see our old car go though. We brought two babies home in it, along with so many road trips. I kind of get attached to my cars, and hate to change.
We got up and around on Tuesday to head to City Market. I always try to take the kids to at least one museum a summer, and this year we did the Steamboat of Arabia. There are rumors that they are moving the museum to Jefferson City so we wanted to make sure we went before then. This museum is about a ship that sank on the Missouri River over 100 years ago. They dug it up in the 80s, and so many things were still preserved. The kids liked seeing all the containers of canned food and medicine that they found and are still good after all these years.
After the museum we went to Beignets for beignets of course. It was a fun little New Orleans restaurant that had quite a line for a Tuesday afternoon. The kids thought they were delicious.
That afternoon we went to school to meet their teachers. Baylor was excited to get Mrs. Jones who is one of our neighbors, and Finley got Ms Lohmann and she is the teacher that has been at Mission Trail since the school opened. I think both teachers will be perfect for them.
We went to the zoo on Wednesday to see the new sloth named Arnie named after the Arenal volcano in Costa Rica. After spending the morning there, we came home and began to prepare for the first big day of school.
Andy went to the Cardinals/Royals game Wednesday night, and the rest of us had a fancy dinner to celebrate the beginning of school. That night when I laid Atticus down, I noticed he was warm. He had a fever and was so excited to get medicine. He seems to be the healthiest of the kids, and is always jealous that they get medicine.
The next morning I dropped Briley and Baylor off at school while Andy stayed home with Atticus. Finley only went to school for an hour to put her supplies away, and do a little activity with the teachers. She so badly wanted to stay the whole day.
Friday was Finley's big day. She could hardly contain her excitement as I took her to the school. Biggest smile on her sweet face. She followed her class inside, and didn't look back. Atticus and I went to a Boohoowoohoo Party for kindergarten parents at the park across the street. I talked to a few people for awhile, and then Atticus and I went to Deanna Rose. He loved having all of my attention, and I am wondering how this year will go with it being just the two of us.
Saturday evening we had our Back to School neighborhood party. This is always one that the kids look forward to. The firetruck comes, and turns on their hose for the kids to play in. Such a fun tradition for them.
That was the official wrap up of summer. Hard to believe it went by so fast, and we are slowly beginning the busy fall season of sports and activities. Soccer and cross country have started, and all the other stuff begins after Labor Day. Ready or not a new year is here!
