Beaver Creek Vacation

We went out to Colorado for a fun filled ski trip over the long President's day weekend.  We surprised the kids with this trip for Christmas, and they have not stopped talking about it since then.  We packed the car the night before, and we were off by 5:30a.m.  We made a couple of stops along the way, and made it to Beaver Creek around 3:00 that afternoon.  Our room was ready for us, and it was perfect.  It was a two bedroom condo with gorgeous views of the mountain.  We got settled in, and then were off to get our skis and boots before going to dinner.  That night we ate at Blue Moose Pizza, and it was pretty good.  We walked around the resort a bit, and then went to Wal-Mart to get a coat for Atticus since he failed to pack his.  Finley forgot hers as well, but Lissy had taken her earlier to find a coat at a local thrift shop. After the shopping we headed back to get rested up for the first day of skiing.

We were up bright and early on Wednesday to drop the kids off at ski school.  Lissy came with us, and she helped Andy while I got ready.  Andy and I skied for the morning, stopped for a little hot chocolate, and watched the kids in lessons.  Briley ended up in the same group as Finley and Atticus which was pretty entertaining to watch.  She did not think it was as funny as we did.  Lissy met us for lunch, and then she and I shopped while Andy went to ski a few runs on his own.  That night the kids did the hot tub, and we had dinner in.  We introduced Dumb and Dumber and they loved it, or at least Finley and Atticus thought it was pretty funny.

The next day was another ski school day for the kids while Andy and I checked out some areas to take the kids to on the next couple of days.  I met up with Lissy, and Andy skied on his own a bit.  I know I hold him back so I try to give him a little bit of time to enjoy skiing without having to wait for me.  We went to get the kids at 3, and grabbed some cookies for them because they had missed them the day before.  Beaver Creek has chefs that walk out at 3:00 everyday to hand out cookies to everyone.  I think we may have really been spoiled by this ski resort.  The kids had another great day of skiing.  Baylor ended up getting to level 4, and the other three were almost a level 4 by the end of the day.

That night, our wonderful family all chipped in to surprise us with a dinner at Allie's Cabin on the mountain.  Lissy had asked Andy and I if the two of us wanted to go, and I had said I would rather spend the evening with the kids.  She got us all a reservation, and they were so excited.  We didn't tell them what was going on, just that they needed to dress nice, and wear proper outerwear.  We were standing outside, and a sleigh pulled up that was being pulled by a snowcat.  We piled in, and they took off up the mountain.  A picture wouldn't do it justice, but the sky that night was crystal clear with so many stars.  The restaurant was so cozy, and food was really good.  It was an amazing night.

The next day, everyone slept in a bit, and then we headed to the mountain.  It was a bit of a disastrous day, but also stories we will be telling for years to come.  We made it up to Mccoy Park and Lissy made one run, and decided she was done.  Her shoes were too small, and they were hurting her feet.  I started to take her back down the mountain, and she decided she couldn't go any further.  She called ski patrol to come get her.  They showed up with a sled, and she got on the back while a guy zipped her down the mountain.  I thought about taking a picture because it was funny, but I was afraid she would kill me if I did.  Turns out, I should have because everyone begs to see the pictures.

On the other side of the mountain, Baylor decided he was done.  He maybe should have gone with Lissy and I.  We all ended up back at the condo at 2:30.  Kids did some more swimming, and got Starbucks drinks, and then we went out to dinner at a yummy Italian restaurant.  The kids all fell asleep pretty early, and we decorated the condo to celebrate Mr. Atticus the next morning.

Atticus woke up to balloons and a banner.  He was so excited for his big day.  I had gotten a Birthday Boy button for his coat that day, and he was all smiles as people wished him a Happy Birthday.  We started off skiing the ski school area until it got too crowded, and then we had lunch.  After lunch, Baylor went back with Lissy, while the rest of us skied until cookie time.  The kids skied hard all day, and there was not complaining by them.  I might have been the one to complain the most;) That night, we opened presents, returned our skis, and then went out to dinner.  Atticus was excited to get a Garmin watch.  The boy has been running everywhere he goes just trying to get his steps in.  He also got some Pokemon cards, books, Ronaldo shirt, and, a Nintendo game.  He was a happy boy.

We loaded up to head home on Sunday.  The kids were all very sad to leave, and are already planning our next trip.  Andy asked if they would rather go to the beach or ski.  I'm the only one who voted for the beach, so it looks like I'm going to have to embrace skiing.

Best Memories:

Briley: Ski school(would have been better with a friend her age), the hotel, cookies, everything

Baylor: Lissy's ski story, warm cookies, hot chocolate bar in our lobby, snowboarding during ski school.

Finley: Cookies, Lissy, skiing with my family, and ski school.

Atticus: Birthday celebration, skiing, Allie's Cabin, taking out the recycling
