Well, these last few weeks have had some highs and some really bad lows. I went to the doctor a few weeks ago because I had a swollen lymph node that just didn't seem to be going away under my arm. It turns out I have breast cancer. It has rocked my world along with the rest of the family. There are so many fears running through my head, and it can overtake me some times. What I have found, is that although I have moments where I am scared to death, life goes on around me. We still had Atticus's First Reconciliation, Briley had her Sweetheart Dance, the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, we celebrated Atticus's birthday, and we just got back from an unforgettable trip to Beaver Creek, CO. I'm ready to get treatments going, and I'm praying so hard that it all goes as smoothly as it can.
Atticus had his Reconciliation at the end of January. He was all smiles when he walked away from the Priest. I would love to be a fly on the wall to hear what kids confess. The Priests say First Reconciliation is their favorites to do.
Atticus finished up basketball and had a sleep over with his buddy, Dean. He enjoyed basketball this year, and looks forward to playing again next year.
My family came to town when they heard the news of my diagnosis. They were wonderful to have, and brought the comic relief that I needed. We all surprised Briley by showing up where her group was doing dance pictures. She was so embarrassed that we all were there. Her date seemed sweet, and his name was Luke. She said they had a good time going out to dinner, and hanging out afterwards. No dance was actually involved in the Sweetheart Dance. Never going to understand that, but I guess the new thing is to not go to the dance.
Amity, Billy, Asa, and Kelsey took the rest of the kids bowling. Asa thought it was a pay by the hour, and kept bowling even though Amity tried to stop him. They ended up bowling too many times, and paid an outrageous amount for bowling. They got back home around 11:30 at night. The highlight of the evening was seeing a toddler manage to get themselves stuck in a claw machine. Our family thought that maybe it made it all worth it to be there to see that.
Sunday was the Super Bowl. Chiefs played the Eagles, and it was such a good game. It came down to the end, and we won 38-35. I had bought champagne for the last Super Bowl we were in, and we lost. It has sat in the wine cooler, waiting for this win. We popped it open, and Andy sprayed everyone. We went outside to see fireworks, and hear all the cheering and horns as the town celebrated. Such a fun night!
